The Bloomsbury group included some of the twentieth century’s most pioneering artists, writers and thinkers and Charleston Farmhouse was the place many of them came to stay. It was the country home of artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant and they painted almost every surface of the farmhouse, turning it into a complete work of art. The decorated interiors and artists’ garden are a must visit!
One of the best family days out in the Southeast. A brilliant zoo offering a loving home to over one hundred exotic animals including sloths and penguins. Animals are only half the fun though! Let you little ones go wild in the huge adventures play areas or enjoy a whole host of children’s rides including the Flying Cheetahs, The Rainforest Carousel and the Jungle Jeeps. A fabulous, fun, family day out.
Visit the Clergy House in Alfriston, the very first property the National Trust bought or take a trip to the beautiful Monk’s House in Rodmell, the 16th Century cottage and home of Virginia and Leonard Woolf.
Take a horse ride through the woods and enjoy the local area from a different perspective. Polegate Equestrian Centre can tailor a ride for your ability and even offer pub rides where you stop for a light refreshment in the local pub!
Explore the Seven Sisters Cliffs, Friston Forest or South Downs way by bike. The Cuckmere Cycle Co. have a super range of bikes to hire including mountain bikes, electric bikes and kids bikes.
Meander down the beautiful and calm Cuckmere river in a kayak, canoe or paddleboard. Soak up the stunning views and watch nature pass you by as you float downriver. Buzz Active situated at Seven Sisters Country Park offer hire for all activities.
A superb working farm and farm shop offering mouth-watering local produce. It has a butchery, an amazing cider barn, a little gift shop, a good choice of plants for sale as well as a tearoom. Well worth a visit (on the way to Charleston Farmhouse!)
A family-owned Wine Estate, dedicated to producing some of the world’s finest vintage sparkling wines. Rathfinny Estate offer wine tasting events, tours of the Estate, alfresco summer picnics and a Michelin starred Tasting Room to dine in.
